CLEAN

A Christian Arts Initiative. Ghana.

What is CLEAN?

I'm sure you're familiar with what Ghana has become synonymous with in December. This festival seeks to offer something unique amid the existing celebrations.

An initiative to bring Christians together, CLEAN offers an alternative way to explore the relationship between Christianity, culture, and the arts. CLEAN started as a three-day festival held in December 2024 in Accra. The initiative now consists of events, a magazine and more. There is a Church wing, a youth wing and an academic wing.

What has CLEAN done?

We hosted a series of events for Christian creatives to connect, collaborate, and showcase their work:

  • Christ and Canvases - An interactive painting session, with two up-and-coming artists Martin Kesse and Kwadwo Boafo, alongside small chops. The event also culminated with an impromptu podcast session.
  • Brunch - An event held at Nouveau, networking over food, that simple, that good.
  • EXPO - It was an extravaganza, the expo consisted of art being exhibited by Martin, MJ and Kleinheinz. Equally, Barima Yoofi, Adriel and Kuukua sat on a panel session and the latter also presented a poem. The expo also had a small showcase of fashion brands such as 1707 and 1nri.

Why CLEAN?

Why CLEAN? Because we need to talk about...

  • The relationship between Christianity and Art in the Ghanaian context
  • The relationship between Christianity and tradition/African culture (navigating syncretism, pluralism, and history)
  • How we bring Christian Creatives together
